Frequently asked questions

Honest answers. No marketing fluff.

About the work

How much does a project cost?

Fixed-price engagements ranging from $1,500 (consulting) to $7,500 (MVPs). Every project is scoped individually — cookie-cutter quotes produce cookie-cutter work. Drop your details in the contact form and you'll get an honest quote within 48 hours. No hourly billing, no scope-creep surprises.

How long does a project take?

Real numbers from real projects:

  • Starter sites: 2–4 weeks
  • Full builds (apps, AI tools): 4–8 weeks
  • Complex projects: 2–3 months

These aren't aspirational marketing — that's what actually ships. You get a custom estimate with your proposal.

Do I own what you build?

Yes, fully. On final payment you own the code, the designs, the content, and the hosting credentials. No vendor lock-in, no "licensed to use" arrangements, no proprietary CMS you'll have to pay to leave. Take the repo and walk away any time.

What if I need changes after launch?

Every project includes a defined revision window specified in the SOW — typically 14–30 days after launch for bug fixes and small adjustments. After that, you can book an optional retainer for ongoing work or pay for new features à la carte.

Do you offer refunds?

If the first milestone doesn't meet the scope in your signed proposal, yes. After you accept a milestone in writing, that milestone is final. The exact refund terms live in the SOW so there are no surprises either direction.

What tech do you build with?

The stack depends on what you need, but the defaults are:

  • Frontend: Astro, React, Next.js
  • Backend: Node.js, Python, Supabase, PostgreSQL
  • AI: Claude, custom pipelines, RAG systems
  • Infra: Netlify, Vercel, Docker

I pick tools that fit the problem, not tools that pad the invoice. If WordPress is the right call for your project, I'll tell you.

About the studio

Is this really a one-person studio?

Yes. Tony does strategy, design, engineering, and project management. No handoffs, no junior devs doing the real work, no account managers you'll never meet. When you email OtrovertLabs, you're emailing the person actually building your project.

What happens if Tony gets sick or hit by a bus?

Honest answer: delivery pauses while he's out. For short absences (a few days) that's absorbed in the timeline. For longer absences, the SOW guarantees a full refund of any undelivered work, immediate handover of all source code produced to date, and a referral to a trusted peer who can pick up the project. The solo-operator risk is real — it's covered in writing instead of hidden.

Why should I hire a solo studio over an agency?

You shouldn't for every project. Agencies are better when you need parallel teams, 24/7 coverage, or very large scope. A solo studio is better when you want speed, direct access to the builder, lower cost, and no communication overhead. Know which one you actually need — I'll happily tell you if an agency is the better fit.

Do you use AI to build?

Yes, heavily. AI-native tooling is a core reason projects are faster and cheaper here than at traditional agencies. Every line of output is reviewed, tested, and owned by Tony — AI is a tool, not a subcontractor. If you're worried about AI-generated slop, ask to see code samples from shipped projects.

Where are you located? Can you work with clients outside the US?

Newark, Delaware. Work happens remotely with clients anywhere in the world — video calls, async project updates, shared repos. The signed proposal is governed by Delaware law, and invoicing is in USD.
